Microsoft Office is Finally on the Internet

June 9th, 2010 Posted in blog

Microsoft has just made Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote available on the Internet for FREE. It appears to function just like the programs in the 2010 suite. At this point I am not sure if it will remain free and be sponsored by ads, or if they are going to tie you into a monthly subscription cost.

Silverlight allowed Microsoft to port the entire Home and Student version of Office 2010 to the Internet, they have done similar setup for online trials of Microsot Office, but not you can access the files on your computer, and even upload and share them online. The online office even works with you iPhone, Blackberry, or Android.

For the curious, visit skydrive.live.com and give it a test drive. Just make sure you are using Internet Explorer 8, and have installed the Silverlight plug-in.

I’m a big fan of cloud computing, so I will be testing this thoroughly in coming days. Please, let me know what you think of the new Online Microsoft Office.
