Google Maps Has Become Very Inaccurate

June 7th, 2010 Posted in blog

At first I blamed my iPhone. the Maps application was missing a lot of streets, both new and old. On some trips it had me making lefts when I should be making rights, on other trips the destination was not accurate once you turned onto the street.

It may have pleased investors to put an ax on Tele Atlas and NAVTEQ but I have seen the effects first hand. on the average day, I have 5 appointments that has to be mapped out, out of the five locations, two or three would have some type of inaccuracy. I started printing my maps directly from my dispatch portal, and I still have the same problems.

Thankfully I have a Yahoo module in my portal, and now faithfully rely on Yahoo to provide accurate directions, so far so good. Too bad Yahoo isn’t becoming the default search engine for the iPhone, it could have allowed them to get a map application on the phone too, perhaps.

Have you noticed the trend with Google Maps? Let us know.
